PDA-Virginia Finds a Receptive Crowd at the CSNY Freedom of Speech '06 Tour

Sherrod BrownPDA-Virginia volunteers speak with a CSNY fan.

The concert audience at the August 12th performance of Crosby, Stills, and Nash & Young’s “Freedom of Speech ’06” tour at the Nissan Pavilion in Northern Virginia was a perfect fit for PDA. Thanks to Crosby Stills Nash and Young for an important and inspiring concert and for allowing PDA a chance to participate.

PDA-Virginia tabled at the event. The crowd was receptive, and for many, it was their first exposure to PDA. Staffing a well stocked table, PDA activists Sarah Stott and Howard Jennings, with set-up help from Neil Swanson, had a productive evening, which resulted in:

With another 15 concerts remaining on the tour, other PDA chapters are encouraged to take advantage of CSNY concerts in their area. If you have not already been contacted by PDA National Field Director Sherry Bolen, check out the CSNY web site (www.csny.com) for the schedule and locations, then get in touch with Sherry at Sherry@pdamerica.org to arrange to set up a table.   CSNY graciously offers “Social and Political Activist” passes so you and your partner can trade off staffing the booth and hearing parts of a great concert. At our outdoor venue, we were fortunate to hear the entire concert.

A few tips:  Get there early to get a prime, visible spot, next to primary foot traffic flow, and/or near food vendors and restrooms. Hang a large banner overhead for visibility to increase your traffic dramatically.  Supplement your banner with a large visible display with your mission and other info to draw in potentially interested concertgoers.  Don’t forget to wear your PDA t-shirt.
