HR 676 Week of Action, April 18 - 25

PDA will continue to fight for single-payer healthcare as the only reform measure that will truly serve the public's interest. While the insurance companies fight with moderates over the "public option," we and our allies, the California Nurses Association/National Nurses Organizing Committee, Healthcare NOW!, Physicians for a National Health Program, Unions in Support of Single-Payer Health Care and members of the Leadership Conference for Guaranteed Healthcare, remain steadfast in support of HR 676, the only reform that is supported by the majority of Americans, doctors and nurses.

So, what is the public option?  Who knows? It could easily turn out to be a government subsidized pay-out to healthcare corporations to cover the neediest patients who do not qualify for Medicare or Medicaid and cannot afford better coverage. Yup, another massive giveaway of our hard-earned dollars to greedy and destructive corporations obsessed with their bottom lines. It could create another avenue in which to squeeze Medicare and eventually privatize the hugely popular and successful program. The so-called public option ruse is creating confusion among Americans desperate for the level of care provided by other wealthy nations. And, it affords members of Congress the opportunity to both get your vote and campaign contributions from healthcare corporations. 

The time is ripe for real reform that spends the healthcare dollar on actually providing medical services instead of increasing corporate profits and CEOs' already fat compensation packages. Passing HR 676 is the most moral, compassionate, and economical reform measure. We must make a mighty roar.

The HR 676 Week of Action is April 18-25. We ask you to contact your members of Congress and conduct visibility events in your community. Schedule a visit with your representative, a town hall meeting or forum, a video watch party at your home, freeway bannering, or precinct walking.

We will continue the fight to provide guaranteed healthcare for all and to prevent the government from forcing yet another massive giveaway. But, it's going to take every one of us to make our voice heard over the public option nonsense. Please make plans--now--for the HR676 Week of Action.
