"Together, we are building a campaign for the hard-working people of New Mexico who feel like Washington has let them down," said Eric Griego. "It's time for strong leadership to stand up to the Republicans in Washington who want to protect the status quo."
Growing people-powered campaign
3,854 individual donors gave to the campaign in the 4th quarter of 2011. That brings the campaign’s total number of individual donors to 13,167 – more than 26 times the number announced by the Republican frontrunner. 97% of the contributions were given by small donors giving less than $100. The campaign reported raising $435K cycle total through December 31st, the most of any candidate in the race and more than double Lewis’.
Strong local support
The campaign picked up contributions from 733 New Mexicans in the 4th quarter, bringing the campaign’s total number of New Mexican donors to 1,449 – triple the “nearly 500” count announced by the Republican frontrunner.
Leading the field in political momentum
Griego’s campaign is leading the entire field in local and national endorsements, especially in organizational support. Griego’s fast-growing Democratic coalition consists of labor unions, environmental groups, national and local progressive organizations, and local grassroots supporters that already number more than 25,000 members in the district – approximately half of the votes expected to be cast in the 2012 Democratic congressional primary.
Griego now has the support of the following:
New Mexico Elected Officials
- Senators Steve Fischmann; Mary Jane Garcia, Senate Majority Whip; Tim Keller; Richard Martinez, Judiciary Committee Chair; Cisco McSorley; Cynthia Nava, Education Committee Chair; Jerry Ortiz Y Pino; John Pinto, Indian Affairs Committee Chair; former Senate Pro Tem Richard Romero
