Former Rep. Hansen Clarke Falls Short Greg Nash
Former Rep. Hansen Clarke (D-Mich.) appears to have fallen short in his congressional comeback bid, trailing his two primary opponents with most of the vote counted.

Southfield Mayor Brenda Lawrence (D) led Michigan state Rep. Rudy Hobbs (D) by 109 votes with 99 percent of precincts reporting. Both won approximately 36 percent of the vote, with Clarke back at 27 percent. The Associated Press has not called the race.

Clarke lost a primary to Rep. Gary Peters (D-Mich.) in 2012 by a wide margin after Peters's district was scrapped in redistricting. The former congressman decided to take another shot when Peters decided to run for the Senate this year. But he struggled to raise money and his two opponents got more national and local support from unions and elected officials.
