Messinger Wins Race to Face Kingston

Written by  Russ Riesinger | WSAV

Progressive Democrats say Congrats to U.S. Congressional GA District 1 Primary Winner Lesli Messinger. Lesli Messinger has claimed the Democratic nomination for Georgia’s 1st Congressional District Tuesday beating Nathan Russo in the Democratic Primary.  Unofficial results showed Messinger with 54 percent of the vote to 46 percent for Russo with 97 percent of the precincts reporting.

Messinger, a 56-year old businesswoman who moved to Savannah four years ago from New Jersey, got into the race late and called for her opponent , Russo, to step down contending he didn’t represent the interests of Democrats.  "I think tonight that all the voters that came out to vote and chose me tells a story,” Messinger said Tuesday night. “They want somebody fresh and new in there that is going to be a Democrat and help president Obama."  She told WSAV in an interview last week that agrees with everything that Obama has done since taking office and applauded the President’s work getting the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act passed.

Messinger will now take on the daunting task of facing Republican Congressman Jack Kingston in November.  Kingston was unopposed in the primary and is seeking his 11th term in congress.

CWA devised a simple plan for which they were uniquely suited: drag TPP out of the shadows and into the light - one city at a time - using a medium they understand intimately: Daily Newspapers!

Two CWA members - Dave Felice in Denver, CO and Madelyn Elder in Portland, OR have started the ball rolling. We just need to keep up the momentum leading up to a big day of petition deliveries in January.

Hand Deliver a Letter to your Senators or Representative on the TPP

If your Senator(s) and/or Representative is not currently opposed to Fast Track, they may not completely understand all the implications. Nothing sends a stronger message to a Congressional member than a personal visit to a district office by a voter with a written request. Phone calls and emails are incredibly important but nothing gets attention like a personal visit. Our Educate Congress page has information and a sample letter. Print the letter, sign it, deliver it.
