Messinger, a 56-year old businesswoman who moved to Savannah four years ago from New Jersey, got into the race late and called for her opponent , Russo, to step down contending he didn’t represent the interests of Democrats. "I think tonight that all the voters that came out to vote and chose me tells a story,” Messinger said Tuesday night. “They want somebody fresh and new in there that is going to be a Democrat and help president Obama." She told WSAV in an interview last week that agrees with everything that Obama has done since taking office and applauded the President’s work getting the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act passed.
Messinger will now take on the daunting task of facing Republican Congressman Jack Kingston in November. Kingston was unopposed in the primary and is seeking his 11th term in congress.
