Kurt Bateman, Labor Coordinator, is a long-time United Auto Workers community action officer, and is a retired skilled tradesman. He joined PDA Ohio as a volunteer shortly after the 2008 election. He served as the Ohio State Director of SPAN (Single Payer Action Network) from 2010 to 2012. Currently, Kurt is a valuable member of the PDA national team, coordinating outreach to labor, and providing logistical support, as well as serving as the Ohio PDA state coordinator and as a Healthcare Human Right Issue Organizing Team co-coordinator with Dr. Bill Honigman of California. Kurt is married and the father of two fantastic sons.
It is a moral outrage for a country as wealthy as ours to leave 60 million people with no reliable access to health care and tens of millions more with inadequate or overly expensive coverage. In addition, despite spending nearly twice as much as other developed nations on health care, our system performs poorly, because the private U.S. insurance bureaucracy soaks up as much as one-third of all the money and pharmaceutical interests overburden America by avoiding price competition.
