"Voting Doesn't Matter" and other Political Lies

Written by  Margarita Mercure Hibbs

Two billionaires, Chares and David Kochspent 2 times more money on trying to effect election outcomes in the last cycle, and they sponsor commercials complaining about Unions. Understand one thing, these two people spent 2 times more than all the unions combined throughout the country! Stop being propagandized by these two thugs.

They also sponsor through their corporations, ALEC, the same organization writing legislation for Right Wing Republicans to engineer and rig voting laws and reproductive rights policy at the state and federal levels of governing. You should be asking yourself why you buy into their favorite undercurrent, that "voting doesn't matter!" Hmm, if voting doesn't matter, then why are they trying to make it harder for all of us to vote?

The problem with politics is that often, people get into politics so that they can make a difference or make things better, but often, greed, human nature and desire for power and maintaining that power gets the better of many of our elected public servants. It is important to keep trying to improve and increase the numbers of those that serve the people, for the greater good and not just the maintenance of power. Sadly, this is not easy. It is also the reason we must keep striving, persistently and consistently with an adherence to strong and good ethics, no matter the risk, the bullying, the ostracism and thuggery that is also part of the political world on both sides of the aisle.

At various times in my life, I have been a card carrying member of the officially "Blackballed", I can tell you that being blacklisted only makes you stronger. The saying of my life is always a little like the following and comes largely from Emiliano Zapata......."Better to die on your feet fighting for your rights, than die on your knees, begging for mercy!"

So it is with this spirit that my husband and I worked, sometimes against great odds and yes, being blackballed that we persevered and pushed, along with other "Pro-Library" community leaders to build our beautiful library, the many quality of life park projects and community improvements. Amazingly enough, it is often people within our own political party that dismiss and disrespect the work, which only goes to show that people forget the purpose of Democratic principles and solidarity.

In the end, there is a difference between being people who merely talk the lingo and philosophy of "Progressive Government and Community Development" and those that actually walk those principles and leave behind tangible and lasting examples of Progressive Democratic principles. So I say to you all, should you find yourself on someone's blacklist and they are not good people, just remember, it is a compliment to your character, not an aspersion. Stay awake, stay strong and vote your principles, no matter the effort to discourage you from your basic rights as a citizen, to vote, to speak truth to power and to stand for something. Above all, decide; are you merely a talker, or a doer?

Will new senators push Democrats to the left?

When Massachusetts Democrat Elizabeth Warren and the rest of the 2013 class of liberal senators start work this month, they'll have to do more than figure out the byzantine ways of getting things done in Washington.

They'll also have to decide how seriously to engage a progressive movement that sees their assent a historic opportunity to shift the Democratic Party to the left.

Elizabeth Warren's DNC Speech: "Corporations Are Not People"

Bill Clinton may have stolen the show at the DNC last night with his 45-minute, half-ad-libbed barn-burner of a speech, but there were a few other noteworthy speakers as well. Elizabeth Warren: Yes She Can?

It was a grim, sleety day in Chicopee, a gritty postindustrial town in western Massachusetts, where paint flakes off worn-out bridges and boarded-up factories. Jonathan Klate: A candidate's connection

Retired Amherst gentleman John Kick is not known as a political activist. In the Springfield union hall where he ventured last October to hear Democratic senatorial candidate Elizabeth Warren, he might have seemed a world-weary citizen with vague curiosity about the professor turned politician.

But John's sorrowful demeanor and disconsolate eyes betrayed a woefully wounded heart. His son, Gabe, took his own life just a month earlier, at the age of 28. John keeps moving, somehow, in the dreadful private agony understood only by parents who persist in such an aftermath.
