Grijalva Statement on the Passing of Long-Time Progressive Champion Tim Carpenter

Written by  Rep. Raul Grijalva | Press Release

Washington, D.C. – Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva, the co-chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, released the following statement today on the passing of Progressive Democrats of America leader Tim Carpenter.

"I am deeply saddened by Tim Carpenter's passing this morning. My thoughts and those of my family are with his wife and daughters today.

"Tim was a friend and a true progressive champion. He believed in a world where people work together for the common good, and he made countless lives better by acting on that belief. Where others saw walls, Tim saw mountains to climb, and he never seemed to stop climbing. He believed we could all get there together if he just kept pushing hard enough. It was a joy and an honor to fight alongside him.

"The Progressive Democrats of America are only a part of his incredible legacy. He truly helped build the modern progressive movement and taught a new generation of leaders that principle is as important as pragmatism. He did his life's work with a smile on his face and an old-fashioned enthusiasm for his causes. He never stopped reminding people that the most important word in politics, as in life, is teamwork. He said it every day and he meant it.

"Tim was part of the progressive family, both in Washington and around the country, and that family mourns together today. His spirit will never be forgotten, and neither will his good works. We're going to miss you, Tim"

Hand Deliver a Letter to your Rep on Jobs

If your Representative is not currently a cosponsor of HR 1000 they may not completely understand how important full employment is to your community; click on your state at the bottom of this page to see all the cosponsors in your state. Nothing sends a stronger message to a Congressional member than a personal visit to a district office by a voter with a written request. Phone calls and emails are incredibly important but nothing gets attention like a personal visit. Our Educate Congress page has information and a sample letter. Print the letter, sign it, deliver it.
