Almost all of Macon County is new territory to Gill, and he entered the primary contest unfamiliar to Macon County voters. Gill has now locked down almost unanimous party and elected support from Democrats in counties expected to make up half the primary vote in March - Piatt, DeWitt, McLean, Champaign and Macon Counties. He also has the near unanimous support of Democratic electeds and committeemen in the two largest counties in the district, Champaign and Macon Counties.
“With all the hard work Dr. Gill has put in over the last few election cycles and his ability to defy expectations and take votes away from Tim Johnson, it's no surprise that he was endorsed unanimously by the Macon County Democrats. I am glad I will have the opportunity to vote for him in March and in November,” Macon County Board member/Democratic Party Treasurer Mark Wicklund said.
“David Gill has always been a man of principle. Tonight I’m proud that the Macon County Democrats unanimously endorsed his campaign and I’m proud to be a party to it,” 2010 51st Senate District Democratic nominee/Macon Co. Board member Tim Dudley said.
Gill said, "The Wall Street bankers, the corporate lobbyists and the Washington insiders don't want someone like me in Congress. That's why hardworking Democrats from the heartland are standing behind me. I am honored to be the unanimous choice for Congress of the Macon County Democrats. We'll show politicians like Matt Goetten and Tim Johnson that corporate money doesn't win campaigns, regular citizens do.”
"For the people of Macon County and for people across the new 13th district, I'm ready to go to Congress to heal our broken government," the emergency room physician concluded.
