Jesse Jackson Visits Phoenix Occupiers

Around 5 p.m., about 200 protesters gathered in front of the Freeport-McMoRan Center in downtown Phoenix to hear the civil-rights leader and former presidential candidate speak.Police in riot gear lined the entrance of the building.

Thousands Close Accounts On 'Bank Transfer Day' in US

MoveYourMoneyNew York:  Thousands of people across the US closed their accounts at corporate-owned banks on Saturday and switched to credit unions and smaller not-for-profit institutions.

It was all part of "National Bank Transfer Day," an event organised by a variety of groups across the country, many affiliated with the 'Occupy Wall Street' movement.
 
Gary Marsh was one of the hundreds taking part in the event in downtown Austin, Texas on Saturday afternoon.

"I'm doing this because there's too much money in the hands of too few people," Marsh said.

Progressive Caucus Co-Chairs Hail Defeat of PATRIOT Act Reauthorization

PatriotActWashington, D.C.– Reps. Raúl M. Grijalva and Keith Ellison, co-chairs of the Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC), today hailed the Feb. 8 defeat of a measure to reauthorize major portions of the PATRIOT Act. Both Representatives and the CPC whip operation, headed by Rep. Hank Johnson, actively urged Members of Congress to oppose the measure, which would have extended provisions allowing roving “John Doe” wiretaps without identifying the person or facility to be tapped; allowing the government to obtain “any tangible thing” relevant to a terrorism investigation, even if there is no showing that the “thing” pertains to suspected terrorists or terrorist activities; and permitting secret intelligence surveillance of non-U.S. persons who are not affiliated with a foreign organization.

Republican Elected President of Healthcare4All PA

David Steil was elected President of this non-partisan, state-wide, grass roots organization dedicated to passage of a Single Payer Health Care System. Steil served in the PA House from the 31st District for sixteen years from 1992 until he retired in 2008. He is currently the owner and President of Micro Trap Corporation, a small Pennsylvania manufacturing company.
