A new independent poll from national opinion research firm Public Policy Polling shows Congressman Tim Johnson as the most endangered Republican in the nation and the top takeout target for Democrats in Illinois. Johnson received only 33% of the vote in the poll of registered voters in the new CD13. The six term Congressman and 40 year politician is losing by 20 points to "someone else" (33-53).
That "someone else" is Dr. David Gill - an emergency room physician, husband and father from Bloomington Illinois who has never been a politician. Gill met this week in Washington with the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and Democratic leader Rep. Nancy Pelosi, DCCC head Steve Israel and CPC leader Rep. Donna Edwards about his campaign.
Gill was one of a select group of 100 invitation-only candidates invited to Washington to meet with Democratic leadership.
“I’m honored to have had an opportunity to meet with Democratic Party leaders in Washington about my campaign,” Gill said. “I’m especially honored that Democratic leaders like Pelosi said that they’ve been hearing about our efforts 700 miles away,” he said.
“Too often this term, Congress has said to the victims of this economic downturn, you’re on your own. That’s unacceptable and I will fight to change that. We won’t fix this economy until Congress remembers that we’re all in this together. We need to fix this economy for everyone, not just bail out the banks,” Gill said.
