Arizona Communications Workers of America State Council Endorses David Schapira for Congress

Written by  Randy Keating

The Arizona Communications Workers of America (CWA) State Council announced today their endorsement of Senate Democratic Leader David Schapira, D-Tempe, in the race for Arizona’s Ninth Congressional District. The state council is comprised of the Arizona Correctional Peace Officers Association (AZCPOA), the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA and multiple CWA local affiliates.

“David is the best candidate in District Nine to go to Washington and fight for Arizona’s working families,” said Tixoc Munoz, AZCPOA organizer. “In the Arizona legislature he has worked hard to create quality jobs, build strong schools and preserve public safety. He will continue that leadership in Congress.”

The State Council represents 7500 Arizonans working in printing, telecommunications, health care, public service and other industries.

“David’s record of fighting for Arizona’s working families is unmatched by the candidates in Arizona’s Ninth Congressional District,” said Joseph Seelye, Chairman of the Government Affairs Committee, Association of Flight Attendants-CWA Council 66. “In Congress, David will continue that fight by representing the values of our community to which he is so closely connected.”

Sen. David Schapira was first elected to the Arizona House of Representatives in 2006. Since then, he has served his community as a high-school teacher, ASU lecturer, Tempe Union High School Board Member, State Representative, State Senator and Senate Democratic Leader. Sen. Schapira currently represents 48% of voters in Congressional District Nine in his service on the school board and at the legislature.

“Arizona families need a Congressman like David who will work to ensure that every individual has the opportunity to achieve the American Dream,” said Linda Hatfield, President of CWA Local 7000 and CWA State Council member. “David will continue to lead the fight to create high-wage jobs and a quality education system that will help middle class families get back on their feet.”

CWA devised a simple plan for which they were uniquely suited: drag TPP out of the shadows and into the light - one city at a time - using a medium they understand intimately: Daily Newspapers!

Two CWA members - Dave Felice in Denver, CO and Madelyn Elder in Portland, OR have started the ball rolling. We just need to keep up the momentum leading up to a big day of petition deliveries in January.

Hand Deliver a Letter to your Senators or Representative on the TPP

If your Senator(s) and/or Representative is not currently opposed to Fast Track, they may not completely understand all the implications. Nothing sends a stronger message to a Congressional member than a personal visit to a district office by a voter with a written request. Phone calls and emails are incredibly important but nothing gets attention like a personal visit. Our Educate Congress page has information and a sample letter. Print the letter, sign it, deliver it.
