NDAA: Vote YES on Lee Amendments #158, #131, & #161

Written by  Rep. Barbara Lee | Press Release

Dear Colleague:

I urge you to vote yes on three amendments made in order last night to H.R. 4310, the FY13 Defense Authorization Bill.

These amendments will safely and responsibly bring our troops home from Afghanistan, keep Pentagon spending within the limits of the Budget Control Act, and ensure a meaningful diplomatic option with Iran is on the table.

#158: Responsibly End the war in Afghanistan(With Reps. Jones, Conyers, Woolsey, Welch, Nadler, Hastings, Paul)

·      Amendment to require a responsible end to the war in Afghanistan, by ending combat operations while protecting our troops by limiting funding to the safe and orderly withdrawal of U.S. troops and military contractors.

#131: Limit Pentagon Spending to the Budget Control Act(With Rep. Frank, Adam Smith, Woolsey, Stark, Schrader, Blumenauer)

·     Amendment which simply honors the terms of the Budget Control Act.  Congress voted last year to limit discretionary spending, but the House mark authorizes $8 billion more than the Budget Control Act.

#161: Appoint a Special Envoy to Prevent Iran from Acquiring Nuclear Weapons(With Rep. Conyers).

·     Amendment to appoint a Special Envoy for Iran to ensure that all diplomatic avenues are pursued to avoid a war with Iran and to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon.

I urge you to vote “YES” on these amendments.  For more information, or to join as a cosponsor, please contact Teddy Miller ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. CWA devised a simple plan for which they were uniquely suited: drag TPP out of the shadows and into the light - one city at a time - using a medium they understand intimately: Daily Newspapers!

Two CWA members - Dave Felice in Denver, CO and Madelyn Elder in Portland, OR have started the ball rolling. We just need to keep up the momentum leading up to a big day of petition deliveries in January.

Hand Deliver a Letter to your Senators or Representative on the TPP

If your Senator(s) and/or Representative is not currently opposed to Fast Track, they may not completely understand all the implications. Nothing sends a stronger message to a Congressional member than a personal visit to a district office by a voter with a written request. Phone calls and emails are incredibly important but nothing gets attention like a personal visit. Our Educate Congress page has information and a sample letter. Print the letter, sign it, deliver it.
