Sheyman is one of five contenders for the Democratic nod in the March 20 primary. The other Democratic contenders are Deerfield management consultant Brad Schneider, Long Grove business owner John Tree, Mundelein attorney Vivek Bavda and Hainesville mathematician Aloys Rutagwbira.

Sheyman collected $180,000 for the quarter ending Dec. 31 and now has more than $200,000 in the bank. He has raised more than $430,000 from more than 11,000 individual donors since he began his campaign.

“These fundraising numbers show that we are entering the final stretch of this race in an excellent position to win the primary decisively and to go on to beat Republican Robert Dold in November,” Sheyman Campaign Manager Annie Weinberg said.

Sheyman also received the endorsement of the Lake County Federation of Teachers and the Libertyville Township Democratic Organization Wednesday.

On Tuesday, Tree announced he raised $101,000 for his campaign for the quarter and has approximately $80,000 on hand.

Neither Dold, Schneider, Bavda nor Rutagwbira have disclosed the results of their fundraising efforts. Reports are due to the Federal Election Commission on Jan. 31. Schneider said he would reveal his numbers then.

As of the end of the third quarter on Sept. 30, Dold had $994,632.94 cash on hand, Schneider had $417,016.43 in the bank, Sheyman had $141,513.65 remaining and Bavda had $28,619.85 left to spend. Rutagwbira joined the race later and did not file a report in September.

Tree also announced the endorsement of former Democratic National Committee Chairman David Wilhelm, Wheeling Township Democratic Chair Kathleen Sances and Palatine Township Democratic Chair Sue Walton Tuesday.

Schneider has the backing of Rep. Steny Hoyer (D-MD), the Democratic Congressional whip; former Rep. Melissa Bean (D-Barrington); state Sen. Susan Garrett (D-Lake Forest); and state Sen. Jeff Schoenberg (D-Evanston).

"The people of the First District can see where that budget impacts their lives. Their bridges start to crumble. We've got 16 bridges on federal highways alone in the district that have been declared structurally deficientm and that doesn't include county and local municipal bridges.

Typically during an election cycle, it often comes down to voting for the lesser of two evils. You choose the one who supports the issues most meaningful to you – or at least doesn’t outright defy them. It can be difficult to encounter a candidate who personifies the conviction and integrity you would imagine only in a perfect political world.

“In yet another misguided handout to Wall Street at the expense of Main Street, Congressman Paul Ryan today introduced his latest budget plan, designed to place the blame for his 14 years of poor decisions squarely on the backs of our hardworking families.
